Mercedes was born and raised in Hawaii. Graduated from Farrington High, joined the Woman’s Army Corps after graduation. Lived in Texas for more years than she can count. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was also the Loss Prevention manager for HEB Grocery store in Austin Texas.

She has been a member of Toastmasters International since 1986. Toastmaster’s is an organization that is dedicated to helping individuals from all walks of life learn effective communication and Leadership skills. She volunteers as a speech Coach to Special Olympics Global Messenger’s in Hawaii.
